REAL MADRID IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINALS AGAIN, THIS TIME FLAWED BEYOND MEASURE
Liverpool fans have nursed immediate excitement in the last couple
of hours, from a perceived obvious speculation of a flawed grouping in the Real
Madrid team. This was adequately confirmed by Dennis Wise and Lan Wright.
The first flaw exposure reportedly came from Bayern Munich, a
two-time defending champion with a formidable reputation. James Rodriguez was denied
his second goal from eight yards out, after a first expectation to score long
before he did. Thomas Muller after being given the freedom of the Real Madrid
penalty displayed utmost inefficiency in front of clear goal. Too bad, Keylor
Navas; the giver of key saves could not save the situation.
In a recent interview, former Chelsea Captain; Dennis Wise
characterised Real Madrid as just being lucky. In his own words;
“Bayern had so many opportunities but Real Madrid just had the
luck on their side. Even towards the end, they put the ball into the box and
they were in, but Muller could not quite reach it. So everything fell for them
quite nicely.”
There is often times a temptation to attribute the fate argument
to Madrid’s ongoing success. One valid argument in this regard would be the
Madrid’s long association with the trophy. And judging from the fact that
Liverpool has got qualities that make mockery of their long grip on
competition, Madrid’s is definitely no less than sheer luck.
Jurgen Klopp’s team as you must have observed has displayed
nothing but irresponsibility thus far. Yet, they are the top scoring in this
season’s Champions League, as well as the top scoring English Team in the
competition’s history.
The statistics provide ample proof that Madrid so far has given up
twenty nine (29) clear chances in the League. This is of course more than any
other team currently running. But this figure is not solely born out of the
fact that they have played more games than many teams. With an average of 2.4
clear-cut chances per game. This is of course more than they had last season,
and definitely more than any team has this season.
“I just look at it and think that if Liverpool can get through the
Roma game, I can actually see Liverpool defeating Real Madrid, just because of
that openness. I just do. I know Madrid have a lot of qualities, but there are
a lot of older players. Sergio Ramos is getting older, Cristiano Ronaldo is
getting older and Luka Modric is getting older... ” Wise said right before
emphasising that Liverpool should not be bothered about facing Madrid.
What are your thoughts about Madrid’s great charm for the god of
luck? Do you agree that theirs is a case of luck? Do you share in Wise’s
believes that Madrid could be knocked out this season courtesy of Liverpool?
We would love to read your reactions in the comment section.
