Cristiano Ronaldo Vs Lionel Messi; who is the World’s Best?


The history of Football has seen a lot of iconic rivalries in the past, especially with perfect examples
in the likes of Pele and Maradona. But perhaps, modern football is experiencing the greatest iconic
rivalry currently in all of its history with the marvels of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
For many of us that know Igbo people, this maybe just as confusing as making a choice between
Abacha and Okpa. We will concur that the excellent career of this duo is a startling world phenomenon, with both
personalities of Portugal and Argentina descent playing for the Spain Arch-rivals of Real Madrid FC
and Barcelona FC. Well, we might just crown Spain the luckiest country in Football history.
We are jealous. Many folks argue that Cristiano Ronaldo (CR7) has got a wider fan base than
Lionel Messi. Do you agree? I personally believe both players are unarguably spectacular and
individual favourites for many are influenced by the club one is a fan of. We are in love with
the dribbling skills of Messi in evil motion, but we equally love the confidence Cristiano oozes
at the pitch. Cristiano may have over time acquired numerous Awards back –to-back annually,
including the prestigious Ballon d’Or; but the player; Messi is undoubtedly also one Award
absorbent entity, winning same Awards Cristiano has been known to win.
If we were to award the title of world best to one of this duo on the basis of career
achievement in relation to experience, we can confidently give it to Lionel Messi for being the
first player of his calibre since his 2010 emergence to the international community, as opposed
to Cristiano’s career that dates back to 2006, but then again, that cannot be the only justification
for awarding such a controversial title, especially because it is argued that CR7 may slightly have more awards. If we were to award the same title based on skill, which would be appropriate, we’ll definitely get stuck trying
to compare Cristiano’s long jumps and long range shooting prowess to Messi’s dribbling drama that gets all
players along his path deceived. We will equally get stuck if we tried to compare Cristiano’s record of having
scored a goal in every minute in football history from many matches, with Messi’s Penalty scoring affiliation
with Yoruba demons in their realm; If you know what I mean. Lately a lot of folks talk about changing the world. Let’s partake in this great quest too, by putting a final end
to the debate and dilemma hovering about who the world best is amongst this duo. Who do you think deserves
